If you don't have
TCP/IP installed
you will need to add it. During these setup stages, you may
be asked to restart your machine for the changes to take affect.
If so, shut down and reboot every time you are asked.
In Windows95, double click on control panel. Double click
on the network icon and click on the Add button. Double click
on Client, select Microsoft from the Manufacturer window and
Client for Microsoft Networks from the Network Clients window.
Click on OK.
Double click on Adapter and from the next window, select
Microsoft as the Manufacturer and Dial-Up Adapter as the Network
Adapter. Click on OK.
Double click on Protocol and select Microsoft from the Manufacturer
window and TCP/IP from the Network Protocols window. Click
on OK.
When the computer comes back up, go to control panel and
double click on network again. Select TCP/IP and click on
Properties. Click on the IP Address tab and select 'Specify
and IP Address'. In the IP Address box type 192.0.1.2. In
the Subnet Mask box type 255.255.255.0. Click on the WINS
configuration tab and select Disable WINS Resolution. Click
on the Gateway tab and make sure nothing is in the New gateway
or Installed gateways box. Click on the Bindings tab and you
should only see Client for Microsoft Networks selected. Click
on the DNS Configuration tab and select Disable DNS.
You should now be ready to install a Web server. Go to Appendix
